August 26, 2026
The Interagency Advanced Power Group (IAPG) Electrical Systems Working Group (ESWG) Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) Panel Virtual Meeting, is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The meeting is being held virtually in Microsoft Teams.
Meeting Goals
The primary goal of this meeting is to support the IAPG mission of program coordination and technical information dissemination. By enhancing the effectiveness of government programs, we aim to avoid duplication of effort, identify technology gaps, and maximize success across research initiatives. To this end, the ESWG AI/ML Panel will foster interagency information sharing regarding the science of AI/ML as it applies to power and energy system management, control, and design. This includes exchanging established and emerging application requirements, addressing capability gaps, and exploring automated reasoning techniques for intelligent energy systems.
The event is structured into two sessions: the morning session will feature a programmatic brief on the U.S. Department of Energy Genessi Mission, while the afternoon session will focus on technical briefs and presentations regarding AI/ML applications within energy and power systems. These afternoon presentations may include contributions and insights from participants involved in Genessi Mission Phase I and Phase II.
Meeting Attendees – Please Review Carefully
Attendance at the ESWG AI/ML Panel virtual meeting is limited to U.S. citizens only.
- U.S. government employees — includes Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) assignees.
- On-site contractors at government-operated laboratories — working under a nondisclosure agreement (NDA). The employer is precluded from competing for open R&D solicitations (captive).
- Employees of federally funded R&D centers (FFRDCs) — includes only employees of the FFRDC, not the administering entity. View the master list of FFRDCs.
- Government contractors — individuals or organizations currently holding grants or contracts with a U.S. government agency. Includes both on-site and off-site performers.
- Academic institutions — includes institutions with an existing Education Partnership Agreement (EPA), Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), or those performing R&D of interest to the government, subject to validation by a current ESWG member.
Meeting Registration
Pre-registration is required.
Registration deadline: August 19, 2026.

Session Overview
The meeting is expected to be composed of both a morning and afternoon session. The morning session is broken down into three sub-sessions:
- IAPG Overview & Introductions: A brief introduction to IAPG ESWG and the AI/ML Panel.
- Programmatic brief of the Genesis Mission: The Genesis Mission is a U.S. Department of Energy initiative to accelerate scientific discovery and energy innovation using AI, supercomputing, and national laboratory resources. The Genesis Mission aims to transform how science is conducted by generating high-fidelity data, enabling AI-assisted research, and accelerating discovery from years to months. Expected outcomes include breakthroughs in fusion energy, new materials, quantum computing, and life-saving medicines, while strengthening U.S. leadership in science, energy, and national security.
The afternoon session is broken down into two sub-sessions:
- AI/ML Application Presentations Session 1: Presentations detailing specific diverse AI/ML applications as applied to energy and power systems, which may include a few technical briefs from organizations or groups who are participating in the Genessi Mission Phase I or Phase II.
- AI/ML Application Presentations Session 2: Presentations detailing specific diverse AI/ML applications as applied to energy and power systems, which may include a few technical briefs from organizations or groups who are participating in the Genessi Mission Phase I or Phase II.
