The Interagency Advanced Power Group (IAPG) Safety Panel Meeting of the Chemical Working Group is scheduled for September 11-13, 2018, at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport, in Newport, RI. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the IAPG Chemical Working Group (CWG) Meeting scheduled for September 13, 2018.

Meeting Goals

The IAPG strives to share information and increase the effectiveness of interagency R&D Programs in a wide realm of Advanced Power technologies. The CWG meeting will provide a forum for a cross-cutting review of current government research activities across the interest of CWG members within the IAPG Member Agencies (Army, Navy, Air Force, DOE, and NASA).

The IAPG CWG Safety Panel meeting provides a forum to exchange information related to technical and safety issues involving batteries, fuel cells, and ultracapacitors used in government-wide applications.

Meeting Attendees/Guests – Please Review Carefully

Attendance at the Safety Panel Meeting is limited to:

  1. U.S. citizens/persons AND foreign nationals.
  2. Government employees, includes Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) assignees.
  3. On-site contractors from a government operated laboratory working under a non-disclosure agreement. Employer must be precluded from competing for open R&D solicitation (captive).
  4. Employees of federally funded R&D centers (FFRDCs). This only includes employees of the FFRDC, not the administering entity. View the master list of FFRDCs.
  5. *Approved government contractors – those currently holding grants or contracts with a U.S. government agency. This would include academic institutions, as well as both on-site and off-site performers.

*Requests for approval of non-U.S. government employees (foreign nationals AND U.S. government contractors) who have not participated in the CWG or Safety Panel Meeting the previous year, must be submitted in writing, and sent to Michael Brundage and Julie Simmons. The deadline for requests is August 1, 2018. Requests received after this date cannot be accepted.

Attendance at the Chemical Working Group Meeting is limited to:

  1. U.S. government employees, includes IPAs.
  2. On-site contractors at a government operated laboratories working under NDA. Employer is precluded from competing for open R&D solicitation (captive).
  3. Employees of federally funded R&D centers (FFRDCs). This only includes employees of the FFRDC, not the administering entity. View the master list of FFRDCs.

Meeting Registration

Registration for the IAPG Safety Panel and Chemical Working Group Meetings, Fall 2018, is now closed. Please contact Renee O’Brokta for questions.

  • Deadline for registration and visitor requests for foreign nationals: August 10, 2018.
  • Deadline for registration and visitor requests for U.S. citizens/persons: August 24, 2018.
  • These are HARD DEADLINES and timely registration/submission is mandatory.

All presenters as well as meeting attendees are required to register for the meeting. No walk-in/day-of meeting registrations will be permitted.

Access to Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport

A visit request is mandatory for all visitors to NUWC Division Newport, government and civilian, regardless of the duration or classification of the visit. Access to NUWC Division Newport will not be granted under any circumstances without a valid “Visit Authorization Request” on file. Please adhere to the deadlines outlined below.

Visit Authorization Requests – Foreign Nationals

If you are not a U.S. citizen, you will need to follow the instructions outlined within the “Foreign National Entry Procedures” document below. Please download the form and follow instructions on how to submit.

All foreign visit requests must be submitted through the visitor’s respective embassy for processing through the DoD Foreign Visit System (FVS) and the Navy International Program Office (NIPO) or NAVSEA security. Requests should be submitted a minimum of 30 days prior to the proposed visit (certain countries may require 45 days or longer). Upon notification from NIPO, NAVSEA security personnel will coordinate follow-on actions to insure timely and accurate completion. Visit Authorization Requests – U.S. Persons

Those who are able to do so should submit their visit authorization request through the Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS), as this is the preferred method. SMO Code: 666045.

If you are a U.S. person without a JPAS account, you MUST complete and submit on company/command letterhead the procedures outlined in the “NUWC Visitor Request Info Needed” document no later than August 24, 2018.


Visitors will check-in upon arrival at Visitor Control – NUWC Newport Building 80 Lobby outside of NUWC Gate 23. Please note, the VCC is open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (except holidays).

Food Accommodations

While there is no registration fee, $18.00 per person, per day, will be collected through the online registration process to cover continental breakfast, lunch, beverages, and snacks provided throughout the meeting.

If your attendance plans change, please contact Renee O’Brokta to cancel your registration so we may adjust food quantities to avoid unnecessary charges.

The deadline for cancellation is August 31, 2018. Refunds cannot be issued after this date.


A cash bar social is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at the Officers’ Club Naval Station Newport. Please indicate on your registration if you would like to attend so an approximate number of attendees can be provided to the club in advance.

Group Dinner

A group dinner is being planned for the evening of Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Charges will be individually billed. Please indicate on your registration if you would like to attend so an approximate number of attendees can be provided to the restaurant in advance.

All presentations must be received in advance for download to the presentation computer. Presentations cannot be accepted for download at the meeting. The use of Mac or specialized graphics software is not available.
